NUM 103◊ Radiation Safety and Protection

Introduction to the history and development of the field of nuclear medicine. Philosophy of ALARA and practical measures to apply in the clinical setting, including safe handling, receiving, storage, disposal and decontamination of radioactive material. Occupational exposure personal monitoring, limits and associated exposure units, regulations and documents governing the use of radioactive material. Principles of radiation biology and potential effects of exposure to the human body are presented.
