WORLD MUSIC SERIES
Kaben Kafo, African Djembe Ensemble
September 15, 2015 at 12:00PM (Noon)

Location: Student Center Mounds (Behind B Building)
Admission: FREE
Kaben Kafo (Lets Play Together) is a djembe ensemble comprised of some of Chicago's most studied and gifted djembe and dunun professionals. This concert will feature six musicians led by the Chicago based djembe virtuoso, Taylor. The event will be moved to the Student Center Cafeteria (B Building) in case of inclement weather. FACULTY ARTIST SERIES
David Flippo, Piano
Ingrid Mikolajczyk, Soprano

In this joint faculty recital, soprano Ingrid Mikolajczyk will be performing songs by Czech composer Vítězslava Kaprálová and pianist David Flippo will be performing jazz compositions and arrangements for piano. Meet the artists at the reception in the lobby following the concert!

In its first concert of the season, the Triton Community Band performs an eclectic variety of original compositions and arrangements for concert band and wind ensemble.

 

WORLD MUSIC SERIES
Allos Musica, Middle Eastern Ensemble

November 4, 2015 at 12PM (Noon)
Location: Parachutes Lounge (Room B-130)
Admission: FREE
Founded in 2006 by James Falzone and featuring the oud (an ancient Arabic lute), voice, accordion, clarinet and percussion instruments from around the world, Allos Musica explores the intersection of divergent streams of contemporary classical, jazz and traditional music from the Middle East and Europe. Though the Arabic influence is unmistakable, writes Peter Margasak of the Chicago Reader, the music's emotional clarity and lyrical grace is universal. This concert will be preceded by a workshop at 11 a.m. at the same location. Website: www.allosmusica.org

JAZZ ENSEMBLE

The Triton College Jazz Ensemble presents an evening of swing and bop as well as Latin classics and contemporary standards. Soloists from the Triton Jazz Band as well as visiting guests from the Chicago jazz scene will be featured on this concert.

In celebration of Valentine’s week, music faculty members Akiko Konishi and Brian Patti perform a joint recital of solo piano works and clarinet works inspired by the theme of love! The event will be followed by a special dessert reception!

 

WORLD MUSIC SERIES
Thai Chi Entertainment, Thai Music and Dance Ensemble

February 15, 2016 at 12PM (Noon)
Location: Student Center Cafeteria (B Building)
Admission: FREE
The study of 14th century Thai court music offers enhancements in concentration, meditation and music memorization by rote. In this special event, Chicago based Thai ensemble Thai Chi Entertainment will be performing chamber music with vocal and dance accompaniment. Thai regional folk music and dances of Thailand will be featured.

In this joint faculty recital, pianist Joann Cho will be performing contemporary solo piano music and trumpeter James Davis will be performing an array of jazz and classical works for trumpet and piano. Meet the artists in a reception in the lobby following the concert!

 

TRITON COLLEGE JAZZ SPECTACULAR

Admission: $7 General Admission, $5 Students/Seniors
The Jazz Spectacular is always a highlight of our concert season, and this year we look forward to featuring another brand new Chicago-based guest artist and jazz ensemble, as well as members of the Triton jazz faculty, Triton jazz students, and local high school students. Past guest artists have included internationally recognized artists such as Juan Pastor’s Chinchano, Doug Rosenberg, the Ian Torres Band, and Rich Corpolongo. A free jazz clinic, led by the guest artist, will be held at 4pm on the afternoon of the concert at the Performing Arts Center. Take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to engage with some of the best jazz musicians in our region!

Choro de Lá pra Cá, Brazilian Quartet

April 25, 2016 at 12PM (Noon)
Location: Student Center Cafeteria (B Building)
Admission: FREE
Choro de Lá pra Cá is a bi-national group from Natal, Brazil and Chicago, formed in July 2014. The group's name means Choro from here to there which represents a mixture of all the musicians' backgrounds – Diogo Guanabara (mandolin, cavaquinho and guitar), a specialist in choro, Caio Padilha (guitar, rabeca, and vocals), a specialist in music from the Northeast and Julie Koidin (flute), trained in classical music. This performance will also feature guest vocalist Camila Masiso. The music is a unique interpretation of the group's own compositions and those of its contemporaries. A little bossa, samba, choro and jazz – all mixed together. Website: www.chorodelapraca.com
