WORLD MUSIC SERIES
Kaben Kafo, African Djembe Ensemble

Location: Student Center Mounds (Behind B Building)
Admission: FREE
Back by popular demand, Kaben Kafo returns to the Triton campus for another lively performance on the student center mounds. Kaben Kafo (Lets Play Together) is a djembe ensemble comprised of some of Chicago’s most studied and gifted djembe and dunun professionals. This concert will feature six musicians led by the Chicago-based djembe virtuoso, Taylor. The event will be moved to the Student Center Cafeteria in case of inclement weather. The first faculty artist recital of the season features soprano Ingrid Mikolajczyk performing an array of classical works for soprano and piano and a collaboration between jazz faculty members James Davis and Brien O’Callaghan on trumpet and guitar. Join us for a reception in the lobby following the event!

Tsukasa Taiko, Japanese Taiko Ensemble

Location: Student Center Mounds (Behind B Building)

Tsukasa Taiko is currently one of the largest and most active community taiko groups in the Chicagoland area. Despite being one of the younger organizations, Tsukasa has over 50 professional community performances throughout the year. JAZZ ENSEMBLE

The Triton College Big Band presents an evening of jazz music, ranging from swing and bebop to Latin and contemporary selections. Along with the Triton jazz combos and special guest artists, this concert will feature the music of the jazz greats such as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Miles Davis, Horace Silver and many soloists from within the Triton’s jazz ensembles.

Eastern Blok and AKGI GuitarDuo – comes up with a unique musical language that melts together his Balkan roots with flamenco and Latin guitar traditions. The Goran Ivanovic Trio includes Matt Ulery on bass and Pete Tashjian on drums.

The Jazz Spectacular is always a highlight of our concert season, featuring nationally renowned guest artists as well as the Triton College Big Band. This year we invite the Goran Ivanovic Trio, led by virtuoso guitarist Goran Ivanovic, to our stage to perform alongside the Triton College Big Band led by James Davis. A FREE masterclass led by the Goran Ivanovic Trio will be held at 4 p.m., also in the Performing Arts Center. Take advantage of this fantastic opportunity to engage with some of the best musicians in our region!

WORLD MUSIC SERIES
University of Chicago South Asian Music Ensemble

Location: Student Center Cafeteria (B Building)

The University of Chicago’s South Asian Music Ensemble (SAME) rehearses weekly to learn and perform song traditions from South India as well as popular, folk and classical songs in Kannada, Tamil, Urdu, Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu, Marathi, Malayalam and Bangla. SAME performs at the University of Chicago each spring as well as in community events, such as Rockefeller Chapel’s celebration of Diwali and commemorations of other events at temples and conventions in the Chicagoland area. The Triton Community Band is proud to welcome the winners of the first-ever essay competition to the podium! Three young musicians from the community will have the opportunity to lead the ensemble and showcase their talents! The concert will also feature faculty pianist Akiko Konishi in an exciting performance of George Gershwin’s quintessential work, Rhapsody in Blue.
