Trojans Win Big in Chowlewa's Head Coaching Debut
Head Coach Tom Cholewa won his first game as Triton head coach in impressive fashion as the Trojans cruised to 7-1 victory at Kankakee Community College. Last years's Region IV top scorer Eric Herrera fueled the Triton attack with a pair of goals. Newcomers Marcin Styczek and David Rodriguez also found the back of the net twice. Freshman Rafal Ryndak added a goal for the Trojans. Sophomore goalkeeper Ben Gomez made four saves. Triton (1-0) will open the home schedule Thursday, Aug. 28 vs. Waubonsee at 4 p.m.
Triton Blanks Waubonsee in Home Opener
David Rodriguez scored the Trojans first two goals in a minute span 12 minutes into the first half as Triton rolled to a 6-0 win over Waubonsee Community College in River Grove. Rafal Ryndak tallied two more goals. Eric Herrera added a goal and two assists. Jacek Boloz punched in his first goal of the season for Triton, who now improves to 2-0 on the season.
Trojans Overcome Early Deficit to Defeat Kishwaukee
Triton got off to a slow start before rallying to defeat Kishwaukee College 3-2. After falling behind 2-0 in the first half, the Trojans rallied with two consecutive goals from Eric Herrera. The sophomore tied the score off an an assist from Rodrigo Avolos with 27 minutes left. Alen Ejupovic would score the game winner for Triton three minutes later. The Trojans improve to 3-0 and will battle N4C conference rivals College of DuPage in River Grove, Wednesday, Sept. 3 at 4 p.m.
Triton Falls to COD in Overtime
Triton lost for the first time this season by a 2-1 final in overtime versus the College of DuPage. After a scoreless first half, the Trojans fell behind 1-0 early in the second half. However, Miguel Cabrales evened the game at one by scoring off a COD deflection with 12:31 to go in regulation. Triton had several golden opportunities to score the go-ahead goal during the closing minutes but came up empty as DuPage scored the clinching goal with nine seconds remaining in the first 10 minute overtime session. The Trojans drop to 3-1 on the season and will host St. Ambrose College Saturday, Sept. 6 at 2 p.m.
Second Half Fury Fuels Trojan Win at Harper
Triton scored four goals in a ten minute span to erase a 1-0 halftime deficit and earn a 4-1 win at Harper. The win was big for the Trojans, who bounced back from a 2-0 home loss to St. Ambrose College. Jacek Boloz, Rodrigo Avalos, Eric Herrera and Gabe Chavez each scored a goal. David Rodriquez and Jamie Pacheco registered assists.
Trojans Blank Defending Region IV Champs
The Trojans showed some rust after the unexpected layoff due to the heavy rains in the area but overcame the lack of field time in a 1-0 win at Joliet. Rodrigo Avalos scored the lone goal off an assist from Eric Herrera. Ben Gomez picked up his second shutout of the season as Triton improves to a 5-2 overall record, 2-1 in North Central Community College Conference play. Joliet entered the game ranked ninth in the latest NJCAA Division III Soccer poll.
Late Parkland Goal Stuns Trojans
Another unexpected layoff did not help Triton's cause vs. Parkland College. The Trojans had not played in 10 days and could not get much of a flow going on offense. The Cobras did not have many scoring chances as well and match appeared headed to a scoreless draw. However, Parkland broke through with 11:44 left in the game as the Cobras left River Grove with a 1-0 win. Ben Gomez made five saves for Triton, who falls to 5-3 on the season.
Triton Sweeps Season Series From Harper
The Trojans had several opportunities to break the game open against N4C foe Harper College. Eric Herrera scored 26 minutes into the match to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead. But the Hawks would not go down easy, tying the game early in the second half. However, Herrera came through again with a header off a restart from Rodrigo Avolos with 33 minutes left as Triton held on for a 2-1 win. Goalie Ben Gomez made six saves for the Trojans, who improve to 6-3.
Trojans Lose Squeaker at Oakton
Triton dropped a tough 2-1 decision to Oakton Community College in a non-conference game in Des Plaines. Eric Herrera scored the Trojans only goal, his 10th of the season off an assist from Rodrigo Avolos. Triton looks to get back in the win column when they host Kankakee Community College, Monday, Oct. 6 at 4 p.m.
Triton Uses 11-Goal Outburst in Blasting Kankakee
The Trojans improve to 7-4 with an 11-2 trouncing of Kankakee Community College. Triton outscored the Cavaliers 18-3 in sweeping the season series. Eric Herrera tallied four goals and an assist. The sophomore is well on his way to being the top goal scorer in the region, now with 14 on the year with three regular season games left. Jamie Pacheco had two goals. David Rodriguez, Paul Kulik, Aaron Mendez, Rodrigo Avolos, and Jakub Cybul each netted a goal for the Trojans.
Triton Blanks Joliet For Second Time
Triton earned the season sweep over Joliet Junior College with a hard-fought 1-0 win in River Grove. Rodrigo Avalos scored the only goal of the contest for the Trojans, who improve to 8-4 overall, 4-1 in N4C play. Goalie Ben Gomez made the Avalos tally stand up with six saves. Triton closes the regular season with a pair of road games at Waubonsee and the Aurora University junior varsity team this Saturday and Sunday.
Trojans Storm Past Waubonsee, Now Look Ahead to Playoffs
The Trojans concluded the regular season with a 12-1 win over Waubonsee in Sugar Grove. Miguel Cabrales recorded a hat-trick with three goals. Jacek Bolez had two goals and an assist. Aaron Mendez tallied a pair goals and three assists. David Rodriguez also netted a pair of goals for Triton, who opens Region IV Tournament play Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 3 p.m. against either Waubonsee or Kankakee.
The Trojans (9-4) enter the Region IV Division III Tournament as the number one seed. However, Triton will not have the luxury of playing any of their postseason games in River Grove because the field adjacent to the Cernan Earth and Space Center does not meet NJCAA specifications in terms of size to host a playoff match.
Instead, the Trojans will play off-campus 23 miles north in Buffalo Grove at the Schwaben Center, located at 301 Weiland Avenue.
Triton Wallops Waubonsee in Region IV Semifinals
The Triton College men’s soccer team began their quest for the school’s first Region IV championship since 1997 with a convincing 8-1 playoff victory over Waubonsee Community College in Buffalo Grove.
The Trojans jumped out to a 3-0 halftime lead. David Rodriguez scored three goals and has cracked the scoreboard 10 times this season. Eric Herrera added his 15th and 16th goals of the year, which leads the team and the region. Jacek Bolez netted a pair of goals while Aaron Mendez accounted for the other Triton goal.
The Trojans will battle defending Region IV champions Joliet Junior College, Saturday, Oct. 25 at Noon in Buffalo Grove. Triton swept the season series from the Wolves with a pair of 1-0 wins.
Triton Wins Region IV Crown in Overtime Thirller
The Triton College men's soccer team won the Region IV Division III Championship for the first time in 11 years following a thrilling 1-0 overtime win over Joliet Junior College Saturday, Oct. 25 in Buffalo Grove.
Aaron Mendez found David Rodriguez who got past a Joliet defender who slipped and broke free to bury the game-winning goal from 20-yards out.
"I give the guys a lot of credit," first-year head coach Tom Cholewa, who also received Region IV Coach of the Year honors said. "They put in the effort and sacrificed a lot of things to get Triton back to winning the title."
The Trojans now 11-4 on the season will advance to the District II Tournament Oct. 31 at 2 p.m. in Madison, WI versus defending NJCAA Division III National Champions Richland College from Texas. The District champion will move on to the National Tournament Nov. 8 and 9 in Dallas, Texas.
