The following are events coming up at Triton College. All of the events listed are free and open to the public and will take place on Triton’s River Grove campus, located at 2000 Fifth Ave., unless otherwise stated.

Through Sept. 27
Unique Hieroglyphics: New Paintings and Drawings by Astrid Fuller and Rachel Welling, Triton College Art Gallery in the Fine Arts Building (J-Building)
Organized by Triton College Faculty member Bradley Biancardi, “Unique Hieroglyphics” brings together the work of two artists who have never been acquainted, but whose paintings seem to speak to each other in the heavy and familiar language of old friends. Sept. 14
Des Plaines River Clean-Up, 9 a.m. to noon, Robert M. Collins Center (R-Building)
Community members can volunteer in the clean-up of a portion of the Des Plaines River that lies adjacent to the Triton College campus. The Triton College Sustainability Center is sponsoring the clean-up as part of the Forest Preserve District of Cook County’s annual Des Plaines River Clean-Up Day. Those participating are asked to dress for the weather and the woods. Gloves will be supplied. The clean-up crew will meet in front of the Robert M. Collins Center on Triton’s campus. Sept. 24
Future Focus college fair, 7 to 9 p.m., Robert M. Collins Center (R-Building)
More than 100 four-year colleges and universities across the country will be on Triton’s campus for the annual Future Focus college fair. Students can explore their educational opportunities at the free fair that allows interested individuals pursuing a higher education to speak with college and university representatives about admission procedures, program offerings, tuition expenses and financial aid. Free shuttle service will be provided from Triton’s parking lots to the Robert M. Collins Center. Sept. 27
Movie on the Mounds, 5:30 to 9 p.m., Outside on the mounds
Families are invited to watch “Monsters University” at the annual Movie on the Mounds event held on Triton’s campus! The free event will have popcorn and a raffle, and the movie will begin at sunset. Sept. 28
Fall Family Fun Fest, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Botanical Gardens
Prepare for non-stop fun at Triton College’s Annual Fall Family Fun Fest, where families can enjoy new games, activities, exhibits and fall favorites, such as the ever-popular pumpkin patch and straw maze, in Triton’s Botanical Gardens. Discover Triton: Explore Your Opportunities, 6 p.m., Room B-130A&B of the Student Center (B-Building)
Students who’d like to learn more about Triton’s many programs should attend Discover Triton: Explore Your Opportunities, a program that will highlight a different Triton area of study each month. Students can hear from faculty and tour the classrooms and labs for that respective program, as well as receive information on admission and financial aid. From 6 to 7:30 p.m., the School of Business and Technology will be explored. Reservations are strongly recommended. Social Media Career Workshop, 5:30 to 7 p.m., Room B-111 of the Student Center (B-Building)
Triton College Information Technology faculty member Mike McGuire will host a free workshop on how to effectively utilize social media in one’s job search. Topics to be discussed will include how to develop one’s brand and build up network contacts for such social media platforms, as Facebook, Twitter, blogs and LinkedIn. The workshop is open to current and former Triton students, Triton staff and faculty and community members for free. Refreshments will be served. Triton College’s Career Services Center will have its monthly Job Club meeting, in an effort to help people with their job search, while also serving as a support group. Oct. 26
Fall College Visit Day, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Student Center (B-Building)
High school students interested in learning more about Triton College can benefit from attending Fall College Visit Day. Prospective students can learn about the college experience from students and faculty, tour Triton’s campus, attend information sessions on a variety of topics and talk to financial aid and admission representatives on how to finance their education and successfully enroll in college. From Sept. 6-29, the Cernan Earth and Space Center brings an array of new and favorite shows to inform and entertain families on astronomy at the planetarium. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. (except Sept. 14 for the Monthly Skywatch) and 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sundays. Sept. 14
Monthly Skywatch, 7:30 p.m., Cernan Earth and Space Center, Triton College, 2000 Fifth Ave., River Grove
Tour the nighttime sky during Cernan Earth and Space Center’s Monthly Skywatch program. The evening includes a presentation on the latest news from NASA in the space center’s dome theater and outdoor skygazing with telescopes focused on the waxing gibbous moon and perhaps an assortment of star clusters and double stars. Admission for the indoor planetarium portion of the Monthly Skywatch is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 2 to 12 and senior citizens ages 55 and older. The outdoor telescope session is free.
