Oak Park philanthropist Mary Jo Schuler to be honored at Foundation reception on Nov. 13

The Triton College Foundation will hold its 21st Annual Foundation President’s Reception on Wednesday, Nov. 13, honoring Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation Board Member Mary Jo Schuler.
Schuler of Oak Park will be recognized for her commitment and contributions to the Triton College Foundation which serves students, alumni and area communities by raising funds toward developing new programs and services, scholarships and updating Triton’s campus operations and facilities to ensure students have the resources to be successful at Triton. The President’s Reception is one of the Foundation’s biggest fundraisers supporting this effort.
Mary Jo Schuler is a philanthropic leader, businesswoman and mother dedicated to making a difference in her hometown community. As a board member of the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation, she has been engaged as a “hands on” philanthropist helping to elevate the impact and leveraging of endowment funds on the long-term health and vibrancy of the community. Schuler also serves on the Communityworks Advisory Board and is a charter member of the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation’s President Council. In addition, she is a member of Women Leaders in Philanthropy, an affiliation group dedicated to supporting the charitable causes of the Foundation through enhancing philanthropy, networking and pathways for the next generation of women leaders. Her philanthropy has led to her being recognized as the 2009 Outstanding Philanthropist of the Year by the Oak Park-River Forest Community Foundation.
On the local business front, Schuler is the owner of Marion Street Cheese Market, a gourmet, sustainable food grocery and bistro in Oak Park; and Greenline Wheels, an L3C social mission business focused on advancing a “biking community” agenda.
Upon graduating from Kent State University with a bachelor’s degree in psychology, she began work as an academic advisor and then Director of the Minority Transfer Center at Triton College, where she developed her interest in helping students define and achieve their goals. She also holds a Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Saint Louis University.
The Triton College Foundation President’s Reception is from 6 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 13, in the Triton College Student Center (B Building). The event will feature the culinary talents of Triton’s Hospitality students and local restaurants as well as a silent auction and commemorative program book.
Tickets for the reception are $60 per person and a table of eight is $440 ($55 per person table discount). Sponsorship opportunities, ad book reservations as well as silent auction donations are being accepted. The Triton College Foundation is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization.
