Mandatory Placement Testing

Mandatory Placement Testing

All incoming students seeking a degree or certificate will be tested in the areas of reading, writing, and mathematics using the ACCUPLACER placement or English department writing placement tests at the time of enrollment.

Students may be exempt from the one or more placement test subjects if they meet any the following requirements and submit the required documentation. 

  • ACT scores: English (20 or higher), Mathematics (23 or higher), and/or Reading (20 or higher) within the last two years
  • SAT scores: Reading (27 or higher; 500 or higher prior to March 2016), Writing (27 or higher; 500 or higher prior to March 2016), Reading and Writing (480 or higher on Evidence Based Reading/Writing), and/or Mathematics (550 or higher/27.5 or higher) within the last two years 
  • Grade of “C” or higher in a college level English and/or Mathematics course from a regionally accredited institution (Also waived from Success Navigator requirement)
  • AP scores (3 or higher): English and/or Mathematics
  • IB scores (4 or higher): English and/or Mathematics
  • Illinois Seal of Biliteracy in English Language within last three years
