Developmental Education Curriculum Revision and Restructure

To better serve current and future students a review of the developmental curriculum and institutional structure were needed to determine whether the developmental areas reflect recognized best practices.

The structural review determined the most effective way to achieve greater collaboration among academic departments and support offices serving under-prepared students as well as identify ways to develop and implement an institutionalized developmental philosophy designed to maximize student success. The curriculum review and possible modifications are designed to increase student persistence and retention rates semester to semester and year to year and includes developmental math, reading, and writing.

In fall 2013, developmental math faculty revised and implemented a new math curriculum giving students options/pathways to accelerate through the developmental math sequence. Developmental English faculty also revised their reading and writing curriculum and created a new combined upper-level reading/writing course in fall 2015.
