Receptionist/ Office Assistance Certification Bilingual - English/ Spanish

This certificate program prepares students with the office and computer skills needed to enter the business workplace while they are obtaining English language skills. Classes are taught primarily in Spanish with English terms. The objective of this bilingual program is to offer individuals the opportunity to obtain the knowledge and skills needed to explore the fast-growing world of the computer technology while using their native language.

Pre-requisites:
Basic computer and keyboarding skills of 20 wpm, or successful completion of course DPR C16 or DPR C20:

DPR C16 Basic Computer Literacy This class is for adults who want to understand and make use of computers. All students will be given hands-on instructions in basic operation. The class will operate the computer using the Windows Operating System. 

DPR C20 Basic Computer Skills & Keyboarding
Are you searching for the letters on your computer keyboard? Become familiarized with the computer keyboard and learn how to type. Learn basic keystrokes, computer keyboarding concepts and terminology for a more successful computer usage. Primary emphasis is placed on developing stroking, speed and efficiency.

Required courses:

Semester One

OFT E15 Windows Express (1 AEC)
Instruction in the application of the many features of Microsoft Windows including file and print manager, control panel, Internet, mail and news programs and data transfer between applications. 

DPR E39 Word Processing for Office Use I (1.5 AEC)
Enter the dynamic world of word processing on a microcomputer. You’ll have hands-on experience entering, storing, editing and printing business-related documents using word processing software. Prerequisite: Typing skills of 25 wpm. 

Semester Two

OFT E20 Word for Windows Advanced
This course is for advanced users who will learn to customize their work environment with menus and toolbars, work with templates, macros and manage multiple documents. Students will build long documents with master documents and subdocuments. Students will also learn how to add footnotes, endnotes, create an index, compile a table of contents, assign a password to protect a document and save files in an HTML format for Internet publication. 

DPR E69 EXCEL Excel combines a powerful spreadsheet application with the user-friendly atmosphere of Windows. Participants will learn the basics of creating, editing and saving worksheets. You will work with formulas and functions to calculate and return values. You will also format data, create charts, work with worksheets in workbook and change the appearance of page, including adding headers and footers.

CIS E11 Internet Essential Skills (.5 ACE) This class is designed to give you all the basics on how to “survive” on the Internet. We’ll introduce you to e-mail, how to do it, why you want it, etc. We’ll also introduce you to the World Wide Web. You’ll learn to use Explorer to locate and view Web sites. Other topics will be addressed.

Semester Three

BSN E02 Customer Service/Office Equipment
Introduction to learning basic skills and knowledge to be successful when dealing with the public in a business setting. Telephone skills, message taking and general office skills will also be covered, along with the proper usage of general office equipment.

BUS C20 Job Search Strategies This workshop will focus on strategies to use in conducting your search. Strategies covered include networking, information, interviewing, job fairs, networking groups and professional associations.

Courses should be taken in sequence. Upon program completion students will be awarded the Receptionist/Office Assistant Certificate from Continuing Education at Triton College.
