Illinois offers three ranks of appraiser licensure. Associate, Certified Residential and Certified General Real Estate Appraiser. As a prerequisite to taking the state examination, you must successfully complete the required classroom hours for that particular rank. The Appraisal Qualification Board (AQB) adopted new criteria (requirements) in February 2004 for obtaining a Certified Appraisal License. Courses for the Certified General Real Estate Appraiser License are currently under development.
The new requirements for the three levels of appraisers are:
- Associate Real Estate Appraiser License successful completion of 75 classroom hours of pre-license instruction in subjects related to real estate appraisal
- State Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser License with no prior experience requires item #1 above and Associates degree or equivalent
- State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser License with no prior experience requires #1 and #2 above and BA or equivalent
