REFERENCE
A staff of professional librarians provides individual and class instruction to help students be successful in the retrieval of information and the use of an array of print and online library resources. The Triton College Reference Desk is scheduled with professional librarians whenever the library is open. For more information, call (708) 456-0300, Ext. 3698.
INDIVIDUAL REFERENCE SERVICE
Reference librarians answer reference questions, teach information literacy skills, and suggest research strategies and instruct students in the use of print and online resources. Faculty, students and community members are encouraged to ask the librarian on the desk for assistance at any time.
RESEARCH SKILLS INSTRUCTION FOR CLASSES
Faculty may request general library orientations or specialized instructions sessions for their classes. Call the Reference Desk at (708) 456-0300, Ext. 3698, to request a date and time. General orientations require 24 hours notice, and specialized sessions require seven days notice.
CIRCULATION
CHECK OUT PROCEDURES
Materials from the circulating collection may be checked out at the Circulation Desk by Triton employees, students and community members. Triton employees use their staff I.D.s to check out. Students use their student I.D.s. Triton community residents may check out up to three items using a valid in district public library card. For loan periods, please consult the Fine Schedule.
RESERVE MATERIALS
Triton faculty often place materials on reserve for student use. The materials may be from the library or from their personal collection. Most reserve materials are limited to Room Use Only, but some may be checked out for a shortened loan period. These materials can be searched in the online catalog and are available at the Circulation Desk by the instructor's name or by department. For more information, call (708) 456-0300, Ext. 3215.
INTERLIBRARY LOAN
Books or articles not owned by the Triton Library are often available from other institutions through interlibrary loan.
Current
Triton staff and students may request materials to be sent to Triton.
Interlibrary loan books can be requested and renewed online by the patron.
Consult with a librarian for more information on how to locate and request materials. When the items arrive, the circulation staff will notify the requester and hold the materials at the Circulation Desk for pick up. For more information, call (708) 456-0300, Ext. 3215.
TECHNICAL SERVICES
This department processes the purchases of all library materials, catalogs new acquisitions and maintains the online catalog database. For more information, call (708) 456-0300, Ext. 3424.
