Triton College volleyball team to host breast cancer fundraiser on Oct. 13
For the second straight year, the Triton College volleyball team will do its part in the fight against breast cancer during its Tri-Match against Morton College and Danville Area Community College on Saturday, Oct. 13 at 10 a.m. in the Robert M. Collins Center Gymnasium.
The Lady Trojans are one of thousands of teams participating in the Dig Pink® National Breast Cancer Awareness Rally to promote breast cancer health education as well as raise funds to help eradicate this disease. All proceeds raised will benefit The Side-Out Foundation, a national 501(c) (3) non-profit organization which supports health care professionals in their pursuit of practical solutions for women and men diagnosed with breast cancer.
Last year's inaugural event was a huge success as the team raised $1,000 for The Side-Out Foundation.
"I am really looking forward to our second breast cancer fundraiser," said Triton head volleyball coach Sarah Supol. "Last year, we reached our goal of raising $1,000 and hope to top it this year by raising $1,500. Breast cancer has affected so many lives and knowing our volleyball program at Triton can help make an impact is rewarding."
There will be several activities for those who attend to help the Triton volleyball team raise funds for The Side-Out Foundation, including a raffle and a serving target game between the second and third sets of each match.
Prior to the start of the match, there will be a moment of silence to recognize those who have lost their lives or are fighting breast cancer. The Lady Trojans also encourage any breast cancer survivors to attend the festivities.
Admission to the Tri-Match is $3 for those wearing pink and $5 for those who are not. In addition, the team is reaching out to local businesses interested in donating toward the fundraiser and adding their logo onto a commemorative Dig Pink t-shirt that will be sold at the event.
