Take the first BIG step to help veterans in need

Join Triton College in taking the first step toward ending veteran hunger and homelessness in the surrounding communities on Saturday, April 27.

Triton's A Step for Vets will recognize the service of our brave men and women veterans as well as raise awareness concerning veteran hunger and homelessness with a walk and donation drive. The free community event symbolizes our shared commitment in providing a service to our vets to help them transition from the battlefield back into their communities.

A Step for Vets will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and include a warm-up Zumba class at 10 a.m., with the opening ceremony and walk beginning at 10:30 a.m. around the mounds on the west side of Triton College's main campus, 2000 Fifth Ave., in River Grove.

Throughout the day, donations will be collected, including non-perishable food items, gently used or new clothing and personal hygiene items, such as toothpaste and soap, to support Hines VA Hospital's outreach to homeless veterans. Monetary donations will also be accepted.

A children's activity area, a raffle, refreshments and live entertainment, including Chicago's own Bailiff, will go on throughout the day. Plus, food will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefitting the Hines VA Hospital.

Participants are invited to come and walk the course any time from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. to show their support for veterans. Registration is free; advance registration is recommended by visiting www.triton.edu/veterans.*

In case of inclement weather, the event will take place inside the Robert M. Collins Center.
