Next Super Saturday at the Cernan Center is July 13

Saturday nights this summer will be out of this world at Triton College's Cernan Earth and Space Center! On Saturday, July 13, families can catch three unique shows in one, fun-filled night dedicated to entertaining and informing all ages about galactic topics and recent discoveries in astronomy and Earth science during the center's special summer series, Super Saturdays.

Super Saturday is open to the public.

7 p.m.

Our Place in Space. This multimedia show tells the delightful story of discovery and friendship between five animal characters - a macaw named Scarlett, a snake named Sheeba, and Indian elephant named Indy, a crocodile named Crusty and a polar bear named Paula. With help from her fellow animal friends, Scarlett Macaw completes a crossword puzzle during the course of the show that draws its answers from the daytime and nighttime skies.

The Friendly Stars mini show. Hosted by an animated sun named Sol, this mini laser show describes the very basics of astronomy, including the stars, planets, sun and the current season's "star pictures."

8 p.m.

Monthly Skywatch. The Cernan Center's Monthly Skywatch brings you the excitement of the current nighttime sky; the latest discoveries in astronomy, space science and Earth science; and if weather permits, the opportunity to observe the moon, planets and other wonders of the sky through telescopes set up on the lawn outside the building. These telescopes will be trained on the planet Saturn, the Moon and perhaps an assortment of star clusters.

9:30 p.m.

Legends of Rock laser show. This 60-minute laser show features a variety of classic rock favorites from such music artists as the Beatles, Led Zeppelin and Jimi Hendrix.

Admission for the 7 OR 8 p.m. Super Saturday show is $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 2 to 12 and senior citizens ages 55 and up. Admission for the 9:30 Super Saturday laser show is $10 for adults and $5 for children and senior citizens.

Special rates to attend multiple shows are available, with prices for all three shows at $18 for adults and $9 for children and senior citizens, or two shows for $12 for adults and $6 for children and senior citizens. Special rate tickets must be purchased together at the same time.
