IDOT project at North Avenue to likely cause delays

The Illinois Department of Transportation's (IDOT) bridge replacement project at North Avenue (IL-64) and the Des Plaines River is in progress.

Project completion is estimated for the summer of 2015, with the first phase to be completed late summer/early fall of 2014. During this first phase of the project, the south half of North Avenue will be closed. Eastbound and westbound travel will still be available through what are currently the westbound lanes of travel. Detours will be installed prior to construction commencing as no turns will be allowed onto southbound Thatcher Avenue from North Avenue, and Thatcher Avenue will be closed to through traffic between North Avenue and Greenfield Street. These closures will likely cause delays and it is recommended that all motorists follow the detour signage.

Traffic delays are likely. You are encouraged to avoid this river crossing, if possible, when traveling to the Triton College campus. Additional river crossings can be utilized at Chicago Avenue, Lake Street, Washington Boulevard, and Madison Street.
