Two Triton Wrestlers Inducted into IWCOA Hall of Fame

Two of the most successful members in the history of Triton College’s proud wrestling program have been honored with induction into the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (IWCOA) Hall of Fame.

Former Trojan grapplers Reggie Wright and Alan Cartwright were enshrined as members of the IWCOA’s 2017 Hall-of-Fame class earlier this year. Wright was an All-American wrestler on Triton’s 1997 Non-Scholarship National Championship Team, earning a third-place finish in the national tournament in the 142 pound weight class.

“I was shocked,” Wright said. “To be a part of that elite group of individuals who gave so much to the sport of wrestling is an incredible honor.”

Before coming to Triton, Wright was a two-time state wrestling champion at Proviso East High School. After Triton, he went on to wrestle at Oklahoma State University where he was a three time NCAA, Division I national qualifier and two-time All-American placing fourth in both 1999 and 2000. Wright is currently the head wrestling coach at Proviso East.

“My time at Triton was awesome,” Wright recalled. “I got a chance to meet a lot of outstanding individuals from the area. At the time I went to Triton, a lot of kids from the area – state champions, state place winners – were coming to Triton to wrestle.”

Cartwright was an All-American on Triton’s 1998 wrestling team, before transferring to the University of Nebraska-Omaha where he was a three-time NCAA Division II All-American. The Oak Park and River Forest High School graduate was also an NJCAA Coaches Association Academic All-American in 1998.

“Reggie and Allen are two of the finest athletes that I’ve had the pleasure of coaching during my time at Triton College,” Trojans Head Wrestling Coach Harry McGinnis said. “These two men exemplify what it means to be a student athlete and I am incredibly proud to call them Hall of Famers.”

Triton’s wrestling program is one of the most storied and respected in the country, capturing four national championships (1977, 1983, 1984, 1997) and producing 15 individual national champions and 82 All-Americans.
