"The hands-on training and life skills we learned in class prepared me for my career. I got all the training I needed."

Robert Garcia possesses a passion and talent for cooking, something he has always considered to be a hobby. He never thought of it as a career option until he was forced to make a change after being laid off from a construction company. "After losing my job, I considered what else I would like to do besides breaking concrete. Cooking immediately came to mind."

Garcia pursued Triton College's culinary arts program at the suggestion of his sister who also attended Triton. As a dislocated worker, Garcia received financial assistance toward his tuition and began taking courses, earning his culinary arts certificate in 2010. He explored many options after graduating and is currently employed as a cook with one of the busiest Whole Foods markets in Chicago.

With dreams of advancing up the corporate ladder in the future, Garcia is enjoying living his dream today. "I took advantage of the culinary arts program at Triton and feel that it has paid off. I wouldn't be where I am today if it weren't for Triton college helping me to get there."
