Astronomy

Triton College's Astronomy Program consists of three introductory courses:
  • AST 100: Introduction to Astronomy
    (four credit hours)
  • AST 101 : Astronomy of the Solar System
    (four credit hours)
  • AST 102 : Astronomy of the Stars and Beyond
    (four credit hours)
Introduction to Astronomy is an introductory general astronomy course that includes the study of the solar system, the birth, life and death of the sun, galaxies and the universe. 

Astronomy of the Solar System deals with locating objects in the night sky, origin and evolution of the solar system, using telescopes, and the physical properties of the planets, moons, and other minor members of the solar system. 

Astronomy of the Stars and Beyond deals with the birth, life, and death of stars, structure of the galaxies, including the Milky Way, and the origin and death of the universe.
  • All courses may be used to satisfy your General Education physical science requirement.
  • All courses are lab courses.
  • All courses are designed for non-science majors and have no prerequisite.
  • All courses are offered fall, spring and summer semesters.
