Maryann Johnson first became interested in health care during her service in the United States Army. Maryann enlisted in the Army after high school and after basic training was able to work as a patient care specialist. After completing her time in the Army, Maryann was in the reserves for ten years and continued her work in the health care profession at several VA hospitals. The Army provided Maryann the opportunity to advance her career through education and she enrolled in the LPN program at Triton College.
Triton College gave Maryann the foundation she needed to further her career in the nursing field. Maryann fondly remembers Ms. Fink, one of her instructors, who was a great influence on her and went that extra mile to help her students become successful. With the goal of opening her own business one day and becoming a RN, Maryann continued her education at Triton while being encouraged and challenged by another faculty member, Joan Libner, current chairperson of Triton’s Nursing Program.
In 1997, Maryann graduated from Triton College with an associate’s degree in nursing. Looking back at her experience, Maryann states, “Triton College was a wonderful experience; they really care about their students.” She continued her education by earning her bachelors degree in nursing from Lewis University and her master’s degree from North Park University.
Today Maryann is the owner of New Freedom Home HealthCare Inc. founded in 2007. New Freedom Home HealthCare Inc. is located in Forest Park and is a full service home healthcare, offering a broad variety of customized desired assistance programs to fit the precise needs of each of their valued clients. They provide medical services, in- home support services to seniors wanting to live independently in their own home and communities. Maryann’s philosophy is to ensure that no patient is left behind. Maryann credits Triton College for “never giving up” while pursuing her dreams of owning her own business.
