The Triton College Alumni Family Picnic recognizes and celebrates the support of the college’s alumni, while providing a fun and inviting atmosphere for families. More than 150 people turned out for the annual event held on the Campus Mounds for networking and family bonding time with games, music, food and even a juggler/balloon artist.

“We appreciate opportunities like the Alumni Family Picnic to reconnect with Triton’s graduates and to showcase the growth of the campus and our Alumni Association,” said Director of Triton College Alumni Relations Lisa Scalessi. “We encourage continual engagement of alumni with Triton through events like this to promote the legacy of a Triton education among families we serve in our district.”

Triton College alum Tekisha King made sure to invite her 25-year-old niece Shamika King to Triton College’s annual Alumni Family Picnic on June 13. She wanted to show her what she could expect when she began attending the college in the fall.

“I loved my time at Triton College,” said Tekisha King, a 2010 graduate. “The environment, the resources and the diversity of the campus makes you feel good and keeps you motivated to get your degree.”

Shamika King is thoroughly excited to begin attending Triton in the fall and could see from attending the Alumni Family Picnic why her aunt spoke so highly of it.

“This feels like such a positive atmosphere, and it’s great to see they have events like these for students and families of students,” she said with a smile. “I feel ready to start school.”

Fangchen Li, also a graduate of Triton, attended the event with her 6-year-old son. Together, they did the balloon toss and sack race and participated in the limbo competition. “This is a cool event to spend time on my former campus with my son,” she said. “I always like attending Triton’s alumni events, and I look forward to the next one.”
