CTE Catalog - Summer 2015
Brown Bags are informal gatherings hosted by Academic Senate Sub-committees, academic and non-academic departments, and the CTE that provide opportunities for open dialogue and discussion on a given topic related to assessment, curriculum or instruction. They also serve as hands-on Q&A sessions on sub-committee policies, procedures and processes. Brown Bags typically last 60 minutes.
The Faculty Spotlight Series honors members of the faculty who publish creative or scholarly works. Faculty authors typically read from, discuss and sign their works at these celebrations.
Teaching Circles are informal gatherings of faculty who discuss a particular topic related to assessment, curriculum or instruction that typically occur within the time of one regular class session (60 to 90 minutes).
Seminars are made up of several brown bags, teaching circles and/or workshops on specific topics that require several hours, days or weeks for comprehensive coverage. Completion of a seminar often depends upon attendees' demonstrating mastery of a pre-determined set of competencies, which may result in some form of compensation. Seminars may also be required to teach online or for a given department.
Tenure Track Forums address a variety of topics to support the work of tenure-track faculty members that include information about campus initiatives and resources, the scholarship of teaching and learning, professional development opportunities, and innovative teaching methods and technologies.
Webinars are lectures or demonstrations that are delivered by higher education experts via the Internet. Sometimes they are digitally recorded and can be electronically accessed and replayed in the CTE. Webinars typically last 60 to 90 minutes, including time for discussion.
Workshops are formal presentations delivered by full- or part-time faculty, instructional staff, administrators or guest speakers. These presentations can occur within 60 to 180 minutes, including time for discussion.
All full- and part-time faculty and instructional staff are encouraged to participate in these gatherings by attending or presenting their own ideas in an event or by suggesting a topic.
