MICROSOFT OFFICE SPECIALIST (MOS)+ The Microsoft Office Specialist certificate program is globally recognized as the standard for demonstrating desktop skills with the Microsoft Office suite of business productivity applications (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft PowerPoint®, Microsoft Access and Microsoft Outlook®) and the Microsoft Project applications (Microsoft Project 2000 and Microsoft Project Central). With a MOS certification, thousands of people have demonstrated increased productivity and have proved their ability to utilize the advanced functionality of these Microsoft applications.

By encouraging individuals to develop advanced skills with Microsoft's leading business desktop software, the MOS program helps fill the demand for qualified, knowledgeable people in the modern workplace. At the same time, MOS helps satisfy an organization's need for a qualitative assessment of employee skills.

Word Core

OFC E17 Word Level I (1 AEC)

This seven-week course is designed for the beginner in Word. Students will learn the basic functions of developing documents to clearly and effectively communicate their ideas. Concepts include:

  • Creating documents
  • Editing and proofing documents
  • Formatting documents
  • Working with tables
  • Formatting pages
OFT E19 Word Level II (1 AEC)

This seven-week course is designed for increasing proficiency with Word. Students will add to their skills in creating, formatting and manipulating text to create attractive and professional documents. More complex skills are addressed, including:
  • Working with graphics
  • Creating Web pages with Word
  • Mail-merge
  • Formatting with templates
  • Sharing information between programs

Excel Core

CIS E55 Introduction to Electronic Spreadsheets (1 AEC)

In this introductory course into the world of electronic spreadsheets, students will learn the fundamental concepts of developing an electronic spreadsheet and the uses of them in today’s business community. Basic spreadsheet functions and commands are covered.

For course sections numbered 101 and above, the course may be taken for college credit. All lower numbered sections are noncredit only.

CIS E61 Advanced Electronic Spreadsheets

In this course, advanced features of electronic spreadsheets are covered. These features include database, text, graphics, macros and database, and financial functions.

For course sections numbered 101 and above, the course may be taken for college credit. All lower numbered sections are noncredit only.

Access Core

CIS E57 Microcomputer Database Management Software (Access) (1 AEC)

This course covers entering, storing and manipulating data in a variety of forms using database management software, the basic tool used to manage data on a computer.

For course sections numbered 101 and above, the course may be taken for college credit. All lower numbered sections are noncredit only.

CIS E67 Advanced Microcomputer Database Management (Access) Software (1 AEC)

Advanced features of microcomputer database management software including creating reports and forms, user interfaces, building queries and menu driven applications are covered. See section description for specific software package. For course sections numbered 101 and above, the course may be taken for college credit. All lower numbered sections are noncredit only.

PowerPoint Core

OFT E12 PowerPoint Levels I & II (Presentation Graphics) (2AEC)

In this 14-week course, new users will learn the basics of working with this powerful business graphics and presentation manager. Topics include:

    Level I
  • Creating a presentation
  • Modifying a presentation
  • Enhancing presentations with graphics
  • Customizing using slide and text master

    Level II
  • Enhancing charts
  • Working with linked objects
  • Working with hyperlinks
  • Using Slide Show features
