Black History Month

Black History Exhibits
View displays of influential African-Americans along with other interesting African-American history facts. Display information will appear as answers in the Black Academic Student Association (BASA) Jeopardy game. The exhibit runs until Feb. 28, during regular business hours in the Multicultural Center and Library

Stepper’s Set Dance Party
Feb. 3, 8 p.m.–midnight, College Center Cafeteria.
Triton will host a Chicago-style Stepper’s Set Party. The style was born from the Black-American lindy hop or jitterbug of the 1920s. It is a smooth, cool club dance. It is a partner dance, and not the line dance or fraternity style stomp dance.
$10 per person.

Black History Month Kickoff
Feb. 6, 11 a.m., College Center Cafeteria
Join us as we celebrate Black History Month and stop by the cafeteria for a taste of soul food. Enjoy live entertainment and witness an exciting dance performance.

National Read-In
Feb. 6, 1–2 p.m., Library
The African-American Read-In Chain is sponsored
annually by the Black Caucus of the National Council of Teachers of English and endorsed by the National Reading Association. The purpose of the event is to make literacy a part of Black History Month. Free books will be distributed.

African-American Community Connection
Feb. 7, Noon–1:30 p.m., College Center, Room C-204.
Come and listen to African-American faculty and staff panelists recount their journeys of educational and life challenges, and how they navigated college to gain successful careers. Let these Triton community role models encourage you to get the most out of your educational experience, and steer you towards a bright future of gainful employment. Refreshments will be served.

Financial Seminar and Dinner

Enjoy a delicious dinner in Triton’s Hospitality Dining Room and learn strategies to improve your financial future. We’ll discuss debt management, investments and retirement. $15 per person

Guest Speaker Rev. Scott Bradley
Feb. 23, 12:30 p.m., Parachutes Lounge, Room C-130
Triton College will host an afternoon with Rev. Scott Bradley, an author, lecturer and the Chicago Bulls’ Chaplain. He is back by popular demand to provide us with his exciting Black history presentation. Don’t miss it. The presentation is free for everyone.

Best of Motown
Feb. 25, 7 p.m., Performing Arts Center
Cultural Programming presents the Best of Motown Show. This show is leaving audiences spellbound unlike any other as the 1960s are revisited with look-a-likes and sound-a-likes paying tribute to the Temptations, Four Tops, Tina Turner and Smokey Robinson. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the door. $10 for students, seniors and Triton staff, $12.50 for general public.
