Waterworks Operation Volume II presents information on drinking water regulations, iron and manganese control, fluoridation, softening, trihalomethanes, demineralization, handling and disposal of process wastes, maintenance, instrumentation, and advanced laboratory procedures. Administrative procedures for dealing with budgeting, setting rates, recordkeeping, personnel administration, public relations, and emergency planning also are covered. Volume II meets criteria for granting six months of equivalent credit as outlined in Section 15 of the Operator Certification Law or 45 hours of renewal training credit if taken as a review.
Waterworks Operation Volume I
Course no. HME E30 (Covers C and D test)
Will be offered in the fall 2010 semester
This course is designed to train operators in the practical aspects of operating and maintaining water treatment plants, emphasizing safe practices and procedures. Information is presented on the importance of a water treatment plant operator, sources of water, reservoir management, and intake structures. Operators will learn how to safely operate and maintain coagulation, flocculation, sedimentation, filtration, and disinfection processes. They also will learn to control tastes and odors in drinking water, control corrosion to meet the requirements of the Lead and Copper Rule, perform basic water laboratory procedures, and solve arithmetic problems commonly associated with water treatment plant operations. Overall plant operations are discussed covering topics such as daily operating procedures, regulation of flows, chemical use and handling, records and reports, plant maintenance, safety and security, emergency conditions and procedures, handling complaints, and energy conservation. Volume I meets criteria for granting six months of equivalent credit as outlined in Section 15 of the Operator Certification Law or 45 hours of renewal training credit if taken as a review.
