2007 Rules of Entry

25th Annual Poetry and Graphics Contest

Poetry lovers throughout the world cordially are invited to enter the 26th Annual Poetry and Graphics Contest, sponsored by Triton College, School of Arts and Sciences, River Grove, Illinois, United States.

Rules of Entry: Poetry

  1. All poems submited should have Urban, Suburban, or Rural themes.
  2. Each poem entry must be limited to 60 lines. Any form of poetry will be accepted. Each poem should be an original work and should not have been previously published or copyrighted.
  3. Each poem should be a separate typed entry, including the following information: name of poet, address and theme.
  4. Winning entries to the contest become the property of Triton College; we regret we cannot return any entries. Triton College Creative Services Department will retain one-time publication rights.
  5. Poems must be received by March 1, 2007.
  6. Names of winners will be announced on April 19, 2007; winners will be notified by mail. Winning entries will be published by Triton College in Ariel.
  7. Poets should send their work to Triton College, Poetry and Graphics Contest, English Department, 2000 Fifth Ave., River Grove, IL 60171-1995.
  8. No e-mail submissions; all submissions must be typed.

Rules of Entry: Graphics

  1. Contestants are limited to three entries of original work. Theme categories–Urban, Suburban or Rural–may be used as guidelines, but entrants are not limited by them.
  2. Strong contrasts are recommended: pen-and-ink sketches, for example.
  3. Photography is encouraged; entries must be in black and white.
  4. Each artist’s entry must be labeled with name and address, and must be received by March 1, 2007.
  5. Limit entry size to 36 inches by 36 inches, matte included.
  6. All entries not chosen as winners must be picked up within 30 days after contest endds.

Contest Information

This program is partially supported by a grant from the Illinois Arts Council, a state agency.

Winning entries will be included with winners of an international poetry contest in Ariel, the Triton College publication saluting the arts. Printing will be in black and white.

Graphics entries not chosen as winners may be picked up in the English Department in the
L Building during the month of May 2007. No entries will be returned by mail.

It is essential that poets retain a copy of the poetry that they enter in the contest. As a result of the administrative cost involved in returning submitted poetry, Triton College will not be able to return any poetry entered in the contest.
