Triton College hosts annual wrestling tournament on Dec. 8

The signature event of the Triton College wresting season takes place Saturday, Dec. 8 as the Trojans host the 23rd Annual Art Kraft Memorial Tournament.

The tournament is named in honor of the late Triton coach, who guided the Trojans to three national championships in 1977, 1983 and 1984. Kraft was a three-time National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Coach of the Year during his 18 seasons as Triton's head wrestling coach from 1967-1985.
Since its inception, the Art Kraft Memorial Tournament has grown to be one of the most prestigious wrestling tournaments in the country. This year's tournament is no exception, as 18 of the approximate 110 wrestlers  competing for individual titles are ranked by the NJCAA.

In addition to Triton, of the nine junior colleges participating in the 23rd Annual Art Kraft Memorial Tournament, three are nationally ranked led by fourth-rated Harper College (Palatine, Ill.), eighth-ranked Muskegon Community College (Muskegon, Mich.) and 19th-ranked Mercyhurst North East College (North East, Pa.). Lincoln College (Lincoln, Ill.) and Waubonsee Community College (Sugar Grove, Ill.) received votes in the national poll.
The other colleges and universities participating are: Elmhurst College (Elmhurst, Ill.), Grand Valley State University (Allendale, MI), Illinois State University Club Team (Bloomington, Ill.), Kennedy-King College (Chicago, Ill.), Minnesota West Technical and Community College (Worthington, Minn.), Rend Lake College (Ina, Ill.) and Wright College (Chicago, Ill.).

This year's field will also feature a pair of returning All-Americans: Ethan Raley and Mike Togher from Lincoln. In addition, 10 other national qualifiers from a year ago will participate including Triton's own Travis Fuller (Sandwich) and Jose Mariscal (Morton).

The first matches of the tournament will begin at 9 a.m. on Dec. 8 and will last all day at the Robert M. Collins Center gymnasium, on Triton's main campus, 2000 Fifth Ave., River Grove. *There is a small fee for admission to the tournament.
