Amari Jackson

Amari Jackson attributes much of their success to Triton College’s Workforce Empowerment Initiative (WEI) program and is grateful for the many opportunities it provided throughout their educational journey.
Jackson graduated from the program in June, earning an associate’s degree in computer information systems, along with certificates in Windows Systems Administration and Micro Computer Technician. They take great pride in these accomplishments and the skills they gained along the way.
Jackson chose Triton after learning about the wide range of resources and support services available to students.
“I had many friends that attended Triton College, and I heard great things,” they said.
During their second year, Jackson received an email from Jesus Lopez, WEI’s Completion and Transition Specialist, informing them to the WEI program. Jackson was intrigued by the resume building, workshops and workforce skills learned in the program.
“WEI gave me the tools I needed to be successful and find my career path,” said Jackson.
Jackson attributes their growth in interviewing skills to the regular check-ins and guidance provided by Lopez and the WEI team. The videos and workshops offered through the program were highly beneficial in preparing them to successfully enter the workforce with confidence.
Now a graduate, Jackson feels a tremendous sense of accomplishment after “finally crossing the finish line.” They describe the moment as “bittersweet” but they are confident and ready to find a career path that fits with their passion.
“I have been applying to different IT positions,” said Jackson. “I can’t believe that I’m applying to level two positions.”
Jackson is excited about some new life changes happening in their life. Armed with a new degree and ambitions, Jackson is moving across the country to Philadelphia this summer.
“WEI really helped me find my career,” said Jackson.
Jackson encourages other WEI students to take advantage of every opportunity available through the program. They emphasized the importance of staying engaged with everyone, from the program director to the support staff, noting that the entire team is willing to meet with students and help them succeed.
“They’ve helped me become my best self,” said Jackson.
