Mason Jarrett

Baseball standout Mason Jarrett has been named Triton College’s March Athlete of the Month – an honor that comes as no surprise to him or the community.
Starting the season as the top hitter in National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 4, he entered April ranked second in batting average and third in slugging percentage. He has hit five home runs and recorded 27 runs batted in (RBI) during the first portion of the season.
Humble and kind, Jarrett still sees himself as the kid from Munster, Indiana, with big dreams of becoming a baseball player.
“My parents had me playing baseball at a young age,” he explained. “I started playing at age three, and I kept going from there.”
Jarrett first met Triton College assistant baseball coach Kendall Radcliffe while he was a student at Munster High School.
“I knew Triton was something special,” he said.
As a freshman, Jarrett has batted .440, which he describes as “really good.” He describes himself as someone who keeps his “head down” and continues to “work.”
“I listen to the coaches, and I take everything piece by piece,” he said.
As a member of the baseball team, Jarrett said he loves the camaraderie of the group and Triton’s historic winning tradition.
To Jarrett, the team is one big family, and he likes connecting with his fellow teammates from across the country. He also greatly admires his baseball coaches.
The instructors have been life changing, and he admires his baseball coaches.
“My coaches have helped me physically, mentally and academically,” he said. “They
have been there for everything. I really love that.”
Looking ahead, Jarrett would “love” to play professional baseball. He has long admired Mookie Betts of the Los Angeles Dodgers and has grown fond of the Chicago White Sox, since moving to the Chicagoland area.
For now, Jarrett is focused on playing for Triton and helping take the team to the next level.
“The sky’s the limit,” he said.
