Triton College Recognized Outstanding Faculty Members at Board of Trustees Meeting

RIVER GROVE, Ill. – Triton College proudly presented faculty member Andrea Blaylock with the Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award and adjunct faculty member Dr. James Halm with the Outstanding Adjunct Faculty of the Year Award during a Triton College Board of Trustees meeting last month. On behalf of the college’s administration, Dr. Susan Campos, Vice President of Academic Affairs, presented the awards.
Both Blaylock and Halm were recognized by the Board of Trustees for their accomplishments.
Always interested in technology, full-time faculty member Andrea Blaylock earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University and a bachelor’s degree in apparel design from Dominican University. She later received her master’s degree in career and technical education from Ball State University. Blaylock moved to the Chicago area in pursuit of opportunities in the tech field.
“I’ve always been a problem solver,” she said.
Blaylock began working at Triton College in 2011 as an adjunct instructor and eventually advanced to a full-time position. Today, she serves as chair of Triton College’s Engineering Technology Department.
Throughout her time at Triton, Blaylock has taken pride in developing and strengthening the mechatronics curriculum—even while serving as an adjunct.
“This honor is humbling,” she said of the award. “I’m thankful to the administration and board for acknowledging the dedication and effort I’ve invested in supporting our students.”
Adjunct sociology faculty member Dr. James Halm said he always knew he wanted to be an educator and enjoys working with students. A Triton College adjunct since 2013, Halm expressed deep gratitude for the recognition.
“This award has been a huge honor for me,” said Halm. “It means so much.”
Outside of Triton, Halm also teaches sociology at Morton College and the University of St. Francis.
“I feel very proud,” he said.
The Outstanding Faculty of the Year Award is annual recognition presented by Triton College to honor full-time and adjunct faculty members who demonstrate exceptional dedication to student success, teaching excellence, and service to the college community.
