Triton College Collects Donations for Annual Campus Food Drive

RIVER GROVE, Ill. — Triton College is once again partnering with community colleges across Illinois this fall to combat food insecurity through the third annual Feed the Need Campus Food Drive.
Through Nov. 30, Triton is collecting non-perishable food and personal care items on campus, with donations benefitting the College’s food pantry, Troy Mart and the Troy Care Collective.
The statewide initiative, organized by the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB), engages campuses in a friendly competition while serving a critical need. Last year, Illinois community colleges collectively donated more than 180,000 food items to support students and families across the state, dwarfing the 91,000 items collected during the previous year. Meanwhile, Triton collected 1,373 items for Troy Mart, surpassing its goal of 1,200.
“Many students are working hard to pursue their education while navigating financial challenges that can make it difficult to meet basic needs,” said Julia Willis, dean of students at Triton College. “Feed the Need is an opportunity for our campus community to come together and help ensure students don’t go hungry while pursuing an education. It’s hard to learn on an empty stomach.”
Donations can be made at:
- Troy Mart, Building A, Room 106
- The Office of Student Life, Building B, Room 240
Nonfood items such as deodorant, soap, feminine hygiene products and small toiletries can also be donated and dropped off at Student Life.
Troy Mart provides food and hygiene supplies to students facing financial challenges and food insecurity. The food pantry offers a variety of breakfast, lunch, dinner and snack options, as well as personal care items.
Troy Mart is a key component of the Troy Care Collective, a network of services aimed at promoting student well-being and success by offering support in critical areas including housing, transportation and access to clean clothes.
When students have access to the resources they need to meet their basic needs, they’re better positioned to succeed in the classroom and beyond. At Triton we believe that supporting students means caring for the whole person, and even a small donation can make a meaningful difference in a student’s life.
According to recent studies, as many as 40% of community college students nationally face food insecurity, highlighting the importance of initiatives like Feed the Need. By working together, Illinois community colleges are demonstrating their commitment to student well-being and to the communities they call home.
Donating food items such as canned goods, packaged snacks, frozen meals and bottles of water will help ensure students have access to meals during the holiday season and beyond.
People may continue to support Troy Mart (A Building, Room A-106) by donating non-perishable foods and travel-sized toiletries. Learn more about the Troy Care Collective.
