RIVER GROVE, Ill. – Scholars Program graduates Yanna Marie Flor, Tobias Libermann, Willow Black, Letzy Yuridia Bahena-Aviles and Roxanna Reyes were recognized for their academic achievements during the Triton College Board of Trustees meeting earlier this month.

The Scholars Program is a two-year academic experience designed for high-achieving students, offering a curriculum tailored to support and challenge academically talented learners.

“The Scholars Program gives students opportunities far beyond their classes,” said Dr. Michael Flaherty, director of Triton’s Scholars Program. “The program organizes students’ schedules and introduces them to like-minded peers.”

The program has a strong record of success, opening doors for students to widen their experiences.

One standout graduate is Yanna Marie Flor of Schiller Park, who maintained a vibrant presence on campus through Student Life, Model United Nations (UN) and the Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) honor society.

“I’m definitely going to miss the community,” she said. “I wouldn’t have built the relationships that I have without the Scholars Program.”

Tobias Liebermann of Oak Park was also a campus leader, highly involved in Student Life, Model UN and PTK. Liebermann received a scholarship for his PTK involvement.

“Dr. Flaherty has truly supported me and helped me with my schedule,” he said. “I’ve made a lot of amazing connections.”

Willow Black of Maywood valued the program’s supportive environment and is planning to attend Hampton University.

“College can feel daunting, but I enjoyed my classes,” she said. “The Scholars Program prepares you for a four-year college and the workforce.”

Letzy Yuridia Bahena-Aviles of Maywood said the program’s mentorship helped her grow academically and personally, pushing her outside her comfort zone. She earned $50,000 in scholarships and will transfer to Dominican University this fall.

“The instructors, the service hours and my seminar classes helped me grow,” said Bahena-Aviles.

Roxanna Reyes of Melrose Park earned a full-ride scholarship to Elmhurst University.

“The Scholars Program was a great steppingstone,” she said. “Since it was a small group, I was able to thrive.”

As these graduates begin the next chapter of their academic journeys, the Scholars Program continues to create opportunities that empower students to succeed.

High school students interested in the Scholars Program must have a minimum 3.5 GPA, faculty and counselor recommendations and additional indicators of academic promise. Students can apply by contacting Triton directly or through their high school counselors.
