International Students

Prospective international students must complete an International Student Application.

Submit a passport-sized photograph with your name and address on the back.

Submit a copy of your valid, unexpired passport. Required of students who reside within or outside the U.S. 

International students wishing to study at Triton College must have a minimum of $22,500 (United States Dollars) available to them for tuition and living expenses for each academic year. Proof of financial support from the prospective student’s sponsor is required for admission.  

1. Affidavit of Financial Support - Must be signed and notarized. 
2. Bank Statement  - A statement on official bank letterhead indicating a current balance of at least $22,500 (in United States Dollars) with a bank official’s signature. 
3. Employer Statement  - A statement on the sponsor’s employer’s official letterhead indicating dates of employment and an annual salary of sufficient funds to cover the estimated yearly expenses for an international student. 

Proof of graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent is required for admission as an international student. All foreign high school and college transcripts must be evaluated by a National Association of Credential Evaluation Services (NACES) member. A full list of NACES members can be found at www.naces.org. 

Official transcripts from any accredited U.S. college/university should be submitted to the Records Office for evaluation of transfer credit. More information can be found at Records Office | Transcript Submission.  

You must be proficient in English to be accepted to Triton College. Original exam results must be sent to Triton directly from Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL iBT) or International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Scores are valid for 2 years after the test date.

Exceptions: 

The following may qualify for an exemption to the TOEFL and IELTS Academic requirement: 

• Official transcript from an accredited U.S. high school showing conferral date of diploma awarded;  
• Official transcript from an accredited U.S. college or university showing conferral date of an associate degree or higher awarded; 
• Official transcript from an accredited U.S. college or university reflecting completion of college-level English composition with a grade of C or better;  
• Official ACT or SAT exam results with a satisfactory score in accordance with Triton College placement in English Rhetoric and Composition I; 
• Triton College Accuplacer reading/writing with a satisfactory score in accordance with Triton College placement in English Rhetoric and Composition I; 
• International students may qualify for admission to Triton College without submitting proof of English proficiency if they are from countries where English is the primary/native language.

New and reinstated F-1 students must submit receipt of payment of I-901 SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitor Information System) fee. Additional information can be found at USCIS (United States Citizenship and Immigration Services) | I-901 Fee. 

Upon arrival in the United States, international students must submit a copy of their Form I-94 “Arrival/Departure Record” to their DSO. Students may access their Form I-94 at USCIS | I-94.  

F-1 Transfer Students 

Current F-1 students wishing to transfer to Triton College must submit the following application materials in addition to those listed above: 

1. Current Form I-20 - All F-1 transfer students must provide proof of full-time enrollment status prior to acceptance at Triton College.
2. Transfer Eligibility Form - Must be completed by the DSO from the last U.S. high school or college the prospective student attended. 

Students can expect to receive their Form I-20 via email 10 business days from the date all application materials are received and approved.

F-1 students may be eligible for certain types of employment opportunities. F-1 students interested in employment must contact their DSO. 

Financial assistance is not available for international students.

Students may arrive in the United States no earlier than 30 days prior to their program start date on the Form I-20. While not required, we recommend students visit their DSO upon arrival in the U.S.

International students are required to register for and successfully complete 12 credit hours in the Fall and Spring semesters; 9 of the 12 credit hours must be on campus/in person. 

International students who begin enrollment during summer semester must enroll in a minimum of six credit hours. All six credit hours must be on campus/in person.

Triton College does not offer on-campus or off-campus housing options.

International students may be able to travel. F-1 students interested in travelling should contact their DSO.

Designated School Officials (DSO) serve as the main point of contact for international students and advise on handling different situations students may encounter. You should contact your DSO if any of the following situations apply to you: 

• Changing your major, program, degree or educational level 
• Transferring to a new school 
• Taking annual vacation 
• Taking a leave of absence 
• Traveling outside of the United States 
• Moving to a new address 
• Changing your name 
• Working in the United States 
• Requesting a program extension 
• Having trouble maintaining status or need to take a reduced course load 
• Having a Terminated SEVIS record or other discrepancies on your SEVIS record 
• Wanting to participate in a study abroad program 
• Having trouble applying for a driver’s license 
• Having any other questions related to your program of study and time studying in the United States 

Textbooks can be purchased in the Triton College Bookstore. Located on Triton’s campus near the cafeteria in the B Building, the bookstore sells and rents new and used textbooks, reference books and general reading material, as well as office supplies, software, electronic products, gifts, and a full line of Triton apparel are also available for purchase.
