Triton College Recognizes Sonography Day

Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) Program Celebrates Field of Medical Imaging

RIVER GROVE, Ill.– Triton College’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography (DMS) program is thrilled to celebrate the field of medical imaging by recognizing the achievements of students, staff and clinical partners on Saturday, April 26, 7:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Zoom. The entire Triton community is invited to attend with a $10 registration fee. Please register here.

“Sonography Day provides a platform to observe student excellence, build community and reinforce the importance of collaboration between education and clinical practice,” said Heather Amwoza, chairperson for Triton’s Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program.

The virtual event will include a welcoming introduction, guest speakers from the field, recognition of student achievements and alumni success, appreciation of clinical site partners and educational presentations and case reviews.

“Attendees who participate in the full event are eligible to receive up to six Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits,” explained Amwoza. “This reinforces the importance of collaboration between education and clinical practice.”

The occasion also awards three to five students with scholarships, each valued at $500, in honor of JoAnne and Marian Mota. The JoAnne and Marian Mota Memorial Scholarship was originally established in 2007 by Jean Mota in memory of her sister, JoAnne, a Triton student. When Jean’s mother, Marian, passed away in 2008, her name was added to the memorial scholarship.

“Students are nominated by faculty based on academic performance, clinical excellence, professionalism and service to the program,” noted Amwoza.

Scholarship nominees must be in good academic standing, demonstrate strong clinical and scanning skills, exhibit professionalism and ethical conduct and positively contribute to the DMS program community, to be considered for the scholarship.

“Sonography is a vital part of modern healthcare, providing real-time, non-invasive imaging that supports diagnosis, treatment planning and ongoing patient management,” explained Amwoza. “Sonographers are critical members of the healthcare team, offering both technical expertise and compassionate care.”
