We understand everyone's situation is different, and we’re here to support you every step of the way.  Let's get started.

Undocumented students will not be asked for a social security number or for a photo ID when applying to Triton College.

Paying for College

Undocumented students can apply for financial aid with the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid. They are not eligible for federal financial aid and therefore do not need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

In July 2026, a federal court ruled that undocumented students are no longer eligible to receive financial assistance from the Illinois Student Assistance Commission (ISAC) for the 2026-2027 school year. Triton College is also required to charge out-of-state tuition as a result of the ruling. Please see ISAC for more information.

Scholarships are a great option and there are many you can apply for.

The Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid

Illinois has Financial Aid options for Non-Citizens

On June 21, 2019, the Retention of Illinois Students and Equity (RISE) Act was signed into law, with an effective date of January 1, 2020. Under the legislation, students who are unable to apply for the FAFSA may apply for the Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid to determine eligibility for the State of Illinois MAP Grant. The Alternative Application provides a pathway for state aid only. For more information go to ISAC website.

HOW TO APPLY:
Pre-screening questions at the beginning of the application will help students determine which application (Alternative Application for Illinois Financial Aid vs. FAFSA) should be completed.

The Alternative Application is not compatible with mobile devices.

Visit ISAC to apply. For more information, check out the ISAC FAQs.
