Triton’s School of Continuing Ed Named a 2018 AASHE Sustainability Award Finalist

The Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE) named Triton College’s School of Continuing Education as a finalist for the 2018 AASHE Sustainability Awards in the Campus Sustainability Achievement Award category for outstanding achievements through its Facilities Engineering Technology Program. 

Winners will be announced mid-September and recognized during the opening ceremony at the AASHE Conference & Expo in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on Oct. 2. Finalists’ entries will be judged on overall impact, innovation, stakeholder involvement, clarity and other criteria specific to each category.

“The higher education sustainability community continues to stay focused on work that contributes toward a thriving, equitable and ecologically healthy world. This is most evident through the entries received for the AASHE Sustainability Awards,” said Executive Director Meghan Fay Zahniser. “I am happy that we can recognize the innovation and leadership demonstrated by this year’s finalists.”

Triton’s Facilities & Engineering Technology Program which is an associate degree program developed in partnership with and for the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE)Local 399. The program was previously awarded the Illinois Community College Trustees Association Business/Industry Partnership award, as well as the National Council of Continuing Education and Training’s (NCCET) Exemplary Program Award.

“The IUOE and their industry recognize that energy efficiency, sustainable practices, and green technologies don’t just make good environmental sense, they make good economic sense as well.  We have a great partner in the IUOE and are both thankful for the guidance and recognition AASHE provides for programs like ours,” said Paul Jensen, Dean of Triton College’s School of Continuing Education.
