Triton College’s Financial Aid Office Offers Free FAFSA Workshop

Triton College’s Financial Aid Office is offering a free FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) workshop on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 1-4 p.m., in Room B-160.

Mariana Hernandez, outreach coordinator for the Financial Aid Office, says that “hosting an in-person workshop to promote FAFSA completion helps students on an individual level and offers more of a personal touch than walk-ins or virtual meetings.”

All students and potential students are invited to attend the workshop if they would like assistance in completing their FAFSA. Parents and guardians can attend to better understand the process. The workshop will also accommodate Spanish speakers and those who are hearing or sight impaired.

During the workshop, students and families will learn how to complete FAFSA forms, along with how to create a FAFSA account. Hernandez said properly setting up an account is very important, especially if students continue to reapply for FAFSA throughout their college careers.

Hernandez wants students to know that Triton cares deeply about being transparent and thorough with their application process. She will be conducting the workshop alongside trained staff members and advisors to make sure everyone’s needs are met.

“This workshop is important because so many of our students miss out on the opportunities FAFSA provides due to its difficulties,” explained Hernandez. “We want students to know that FAFSA is not only accessible, but that there is also educated staff ready to help them along every step of the way.”

FAFSA is a free application to receive state and federal funding for education as well as notifying students about grants and opportunities. Students can utilize FAFSA for their entire higher education career.
