TimelyCare this Holiday Season

Triton College Urges Students to Use TimelyCare this Holiday Season

In an effort to help students address the stress that accompanies the end of the semester, winter doldrums and/or the frequently stressful holiday season, Triton would like to encourage students to utilize the free TimelyCare app which gives students an opportunity to speak live with a professional regarding any mental or physical concerns.

The TimelyCare app is the leading virtual health and well-being solution offering higher education students free and equitable access to medical, mental health and basic needs through the TimelyCare platform.

TimelyCare serves as a 24/7 virtual extension of campus health and counseling center resources, with a goal of improving student well-being, engagement and retention.

Leslie Wester, Triton College’s chairperson of Counseling, feels the holiday season can be very stressful for college students.

“The holidays are stressful for people in general,” noted Wester. “For students, they have the stress of final projects and final exams. Many students work in retail or food services, so they have many more demands at work. Financially, the holidays can be tough for students and their families. This app allows students to receive immediate help with a mental or physical ailment at any time of day, even during the evening hours of Thanksgiving or Christmas.”

TimelyCare also gives students a chance to interact with other peers to discuss different topics, such as how to stay active during the winter months, staying motivated, as well as general health advice.

“The holidays can produce a lot of stressors,” said Wester. “Some students may feel like they do not have enough time to take care of themselves. This app can be a great option to connect with a professional (or peer) at a time that works for students.”

Through TimelyCare on their phone or other device, Triton College students can now select from a wide-ranging menu of virtual care options from licensed physicians and counselors in all 50 states – at no cost and without the hassle of traditional insurance – including:

  • On-demand medical care.
  • Appointment-based medical care.
  • On-demand mental health and emotional support (TalkNow).
  • Basic needs assistance.
  • Digital self-care content.

Additionally, faculty and staff will have access to support that empowers them to guide students to TimelyCare resources to help achieve a sense of well-being, live healthier lifestyles and improve their mental health.
