I And You

Triton College’s Visual, Performing and Communication Arts Department presents I and You, Saturday, Nov. 5-Sunday, Nov. 6, and Saturday, Nov. 12-Sunday, Nov. 13, in the George R. Cox Auditorium (J Building), beginning at 7 p.m. Admission is $5. The leading male role and tech staff are all Triton students.

The premise of the play is about a high school basketball player named Anthony. Anthony wants his classmate, Caroline, to help him complete his English assignment on Walt Whitman’s Leaves of Grass. Caroline, however, hasn’t been to school in months due to her failing liver. Caroline is angry and short-tempered since her illness has kept her sheltered from the world.

As the two of them work together, they slowly begin to confide in each other about their dreams and fears, as well as private grief.

This play won the 2014 Harold and Mimi Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association New Play Award and was a finalist for the 2014 Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
