Pride Month 2023

June is Pride Month! Each year, Pride Month observes the impact lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, asexual and more (LGBTQIA+) individuals have had throughout history on local, national and international levels. Pride Month began as “Gay Pride Day,” a celebration to honor the 1969 Stonewall Uprising in New York City, the catalyst of the gay rights movement. “Gay Pride Day” eventually became a month-long series of events such as parties, lectures, parades, workshops, concerts and events throughout the month of June, eventually culminating into “Pride Month.”

In honor of Pride Month, the Triton College Library features its updated research guide for LGBTQIA+ resources.

Check the library website for their digital book display to read and understand more about Pride Month,  LGBTQIA+ Online book display or come into the library to browse the physical book display. Some suggested reading includes the following resources which can be searched in their catalog:

  • Understanding and Teaching U.S. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender History by Leila J. Rupp
  • LGBT Youth in America’s Schools by Jason Cianciotto and Sean Cahill
  • Queer: The Ultimate LGBT Guide for Teens by Kathy Belge and Marke Bieschke
  • Chicago Whispers: A History of LGBT Chicago Before Stonewall by St. Sukie de la Croix
  • This Day in June by Gayle E. Pitman
