Ibraheem Azam, a student in Triton College’s Barber Program, appreciated the idea of becoming a barber for one simple reason—to help people feel more confident.

“I want to take on male and female clients and make them feel great when they look in the mirror,” he shared.

Growing up in Oak Park, Azam wasn’t sure what career path he wanted to pursue. Thinking he might go into a trade, he decided to tour Triton College. As chance would have it, Azam stumbled upon Triton’s state-of-the-art barbering studio.

“I saw this beautiful studio and I began looking into Triton’s program,” he said. “Barbering is much more than cutting hair—it’s a lifestyle.”

In addition to technical skills like haircutting and styling, Azam said Triton’s program also covers time management, economics and the business side of the profession. He aspires to be an expert “fader” as well as acquiring unique niches within the barbering world.

After completing Triton’s program, Azam has high aspirations. He hopes to open his own barbershop and become a master barber.

“I want to work on my craft and figure out who I am as a barber,” he said. “I just want to get better and offer my best services and skills.”
