Katerina Trankina, a Triton College graduate and assistant instructor in the Visual, Performing and Communication Arts (VIC) Department, says Triton College transformed her life – bringing both meaning and career opportunities.

“Anything is possible if you try,” said Trankina, quoting her favorite instructor, Jill LoBianco-Bartalis. “It is never too late to follow your passion.”

Growing up in the Czech Republic, Trankina was always interested in art. As a young girl, she immigrated to the United States alone, trying to find her way. Settling in River Grove as an adult, her life took a difficult turn after the death of her husband.

“My daughter was starting school, and I wanted to use art as a way to heal,” she explained. “Since I live in River Grove, I decided to enroll in an art class at Triton.”

Trankina was instantly inspired by LoBianco-Bartalis’ Computer Art class, which helped build confidence in her artistic abilities. Transforming her visions through photography and computer art classes, Trankina was motivated to pursue a career as an art educator.

She credits her art instructors for being “true leaders,” describing them as “knowledgeable” and “helpful.”

“I have faced many challenges as an adult student, but I have overcome them,” said Trankina. “I finished my associate degree at Triton in May 2025.”

Today, Trankina is pursuing a preschool through twelfth grade art education degree at Concordia University, while also serving as an assistant in Triton’s VIC Department. In her role, she does everything in her power to help students succeed.;

Looking ahead, she hopes to inspire other students through art and creativity, acknowledging that it gives individuals to find both a voice and vision.

“I want students to know that it is never too late to start over,” she said. “Take the first step and the rest will follow. Never give up on your dreams!”
