Skarlett Hunt, a Triton College student and proud veteran, feels her journey has finally brought her to the right place. Through firsthand experience with real-world events, Hunt has lived in Sicily to Germany to Oregon. Shaped by both travel and personal growth, Hunt hoped for a fresh start when she and her spouse eventually settled to the Chicagoland area.

Hoping for a career change and a meaningful line of work, she found exactly what she was looking for in Triton College’s Behavioral Science Department. She feels the field of psychology is both gratifying and helpful for individuals with mental health needs. At the same time, Hunt has been able to express herself creatively through Triton College’s Visual, Performing and Communication Arts Department.

“I’m currently studying psychology, but all of my electives are in art,” she said. “Art plays a very important role in society and how we’re feeling and thinking.”

Hunt is focusing on Humanities through the Arts and enjoys creating sculptures and paintings. She also hopes to take theater and music classes to expand her creativity and self-expression.

“All of the instructors here are really accepting,” she said. “Triton College is so welcoming.”

Hunt even shared that the art department and her fellow students have given her “hope for humanity,” adding that she feels passionate about the way “different types of people come to create something for the better.”

For the future, Hunt plans to transfer to University of Illinois Chicago (UIC) in the fall, majoring in psychology and minor in sociology.

“Triton College has given me the opportunity to explore things on my own and develop a new sense of self,” she said. “It’s given me a second chance of developing a new career. I absolutely love it.”
