HTH E38 - EKG Technician Program

EKG Technicians are responsible for performing electrocardiogram (EKG) tests in order to monitor and record electrical impulses transmitted by the heart. These tests include basic EKGs, Holter Monitoring (portable EKG which records activity for 24-48 hrs.), 12-lead placement, and stress tests (treadmill). They assist physicians and other members of the healthcare team in identifying and analyzing cardiac and blood vessel irregularities.

EKG technicians work in physician's offices, hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare facilities. They may also work for insurance companies to establish health and life insurance policies.

This comprehensive 60-hour EKG Technician program prepares students to become EKG technicians, and covers heart anatomy and physiology, medical disease processes, medical terminology, medical ethics, legal aspects of patient contact, and laboratory assisting.  Students will practice with state-of-the-art equipment and perform hands-on, interactive labs, where they will learn the functions and proper usage of different EKG machines, proper lead placement, and other clinical practices.

Key areas and topics include:

  • Role of the EKG technician
  • Function of the EKG Department in a variety of settings (hospital, clinic, office, mobile service)
