HMS E58 – Medical Scribe
Medical scribes are the newest addition to the medical team. They are trained medical information managers, specializing in charting physician-patient encounters during medical examinations. Medical scribes work directly with the provider or remotely. They enter patient information into electronic health records (HER) in real time under the direction of a physician or independent practitioner.
In this 60-hour course, students will gain knowledge of many commonly-used medical terms, as well as learn how to document medical provider dictation and activities.

Educational Requirements and Recommendations
- High school diploma or GED
- Students are required to have completed AHL 120 Medical Terminology, or be concurrently enrolled in AHL 120, prior to enrolling in the Medical Scribe class. AHL 120 can be completed online or in-person
- At least one year of experience in a health profession is recommended
